A priest, Sven, and his wife Anna live in a lonely vicarage in northern Sweden. Anna has been suffering from nervous trouble. With them lives her "self-sacrificing" friend Hedvig. Hedvig is a complicated character. At first sight she exposes dark sides. She has sworn her self to the devil, by carving a bloody cross onto her body. Hedvig is successfully performing a lot of sorceries, several of them with a strong erotic meaning Thus she sneaks naked to the priest's bed during night. Leaning over him she kisses his body. Sven is moving uneasily in his sleep but does not wake up. Carefully she sits astride him. There is a night of lust. Anna fins herself soon entangled in a net of wickedness. It is surrounding her from all sides, still it is gliding away, always impalpable. There are cases of violent death, declared "natural" in spite of many question marks. There is a heavy atmosphere of fright, hatred and eroticism in the beautiful vicarage...

Swedish erotic horror (with emphasis on the former)

This is one of those Swedish films that is only currently available in its native dialogue, so I had to rely on the bizarre visuals (and written plot synopses from bilingual Swedes) to try to fathom exactly what the hell is going on. A woman (Anita Sanders),who apparently was in some kind of institution, returns home with her husband to her friend/maid (Solveig Anderson). The younger woman, however, is now practicing witchcraft. She wreaks all kinds of strange havoc with voodoo dolls and then uses her powers to seduce BOTH the religious husband and the neurotic wife. It all ends--as these things inevitably do--in a long satanic orgy.

This movie is interesting mainly for the two lead actresses and the director, Torgny Wickman. Solveig Anderson would probably be a lot more well known in Swedish erotica of that era if only she had not appeared in all her English-friendly films (i.e. "Swedish Wildcats", "Thriller", "Wide Open") with Christina Lindberg, who made even this Swedish beauty seem pretty ordinary-looking by comparison. Anita Sanders, on the other hand, was mainly active in Italian exploitation flicks. She appeared in the early Tinto Brass interracial-sex film "Nerosubianco (Attraction)" and she played former Miss Teen Italy Gloria Guida's ridiculously young-looking mother in "Quella Eta Malizia". Free from the erotic shadows of Christine Lindbeg and Gloria Guida respectively, these two do manage to generate quite a bit of heat together (which might explain why they're wandering around out in the snow wearing short miniskirts in one scene).

Torgny Wickman is most famous for his "Language of Love" sex documentaries, which broke a lot of barriers in their day, but seem pretty quaint today. His fictional film "Anita" with Christina Lindberg as a crazed nymphomaniac has gotten a legitimate English-language release and quite a bit of attention recently, but his earlier study of teenage nymphomania, "Eva, the Half Virgin" (with Anderson in the title role) has so far been neglected. As a Swedish horror film, this certainly won't make anybody forget about "Let the Right One", but as an EROTIC horror film it certainly works alright.

Hong Kong swashbuckler with David Chiang and Ti Lung as Tartar princes

THE HEROIC ONES (1970) is a large-scale 2-hour historical costume adventure set at the time of the Tang Dynasty in which the 13 sons of Tartar King Id fight on the side of the Emperor against assorted rebels. Directed by Chang Cheh, it's less a kung fu film than a fast-paced swashbuckler with a higher body count than any similar Hollywood epic. King Id is played by frequent Shaw Bros. villain Ku Feng, while his two favorite sons are played by David Chiang and Ti Lung, who would pop up as a team in several later near-epics also directed by Chang.

The action centers around a campaign by the 13 sons to wipe out a rebel faction. The family is undermined, however, by treachery within the ranks when two of the sons, jealous of the 13th prince (David Chiang), make a secret alliance with a court member in league with the rebels. The twists and turns which follow culminate in a tragic and bloody ending. It's a spectacular, fabulous-looking production with a large cast, massive sets, lots of action and bloodshed, and a compelling story.

While they weren't the Shaw Bros. studio's greatest kung fu stars, Ti Lung and David Chiang were both agile, athletic and energetic, twirling their swords, lances and spears with great flourish and fervor, and making superhuman acrobatic leaps with the help of convenient stuntmen. Other familiar Shaw Bros. actors appear in smaller parts, including Billy Tang, Lily Li and strongman Bolo Yeung (who is subdued and captured by the slender David in one far-fetched encounter).

Be aware that subtitled prints have dramatic scenes and extended dance segments missing from the English-dubbed version, while the English-dubbed version has action scenes missing from the subtitled print.

not much here

Despite an overdose of social sincerity in the first half, this film basically emerges as your typical early 70s exploitation fare. It's about a couple of housewives whose husbands leave for a sporting trip so they decide to explore their relationship with each other, in a romantic way. One of the girls (I couldn't tell you which one at this point) gets really involved with it on a personal level and the other is just playing around and is really more interested in cheating with a neighborhood guy. There's a brief bit of action when the hubby finds out but other than that it's a lot of bad dialog and a little bit of hard exploitation. The serious girl goes to a drug party with a couple of lesbians and almost gets seduced by some kind of a big-shot art personality (another woman).

I found the girl on girl exploitation to be decent but quite brief and lacking in any kind of fetishism or visual humor. The girl on guy exploitation was even more dull. So if anyone is looking at this comment for a recommendation I'd tell you to avoid it unless you're particularly interested in the subject of Hollywood portrayals of homosexuality. If you already saw it and you're looking for more information I don't have any, and if you're looking for insight I don't think there's much to see into here.
