Not much exploitation in this talky slice of nunsploitation

I love the nunsploitation genre when it's at its most exploitative and depicts the servants of God during various sequences of debauchery and blasphemy. Unfortunately, The Nuns of Saint Archangel prefers to spend its runtime mostly on talky drama, which does focus on blasphemy, but unfortunately not much of it is actually shown. On the plus side, the production values are great and director Domenico Paolella (who also directed decent nunsploitation Story of a Cloistered Nun in the same year) produces some nice visuals. The plot focuses, as you would expect, on a convent. The Mother Superior has passed away, and so a vacancy has arisen for that particular post. This leads to several nuns at the convent trying to get the position over the others. Giulia believes she would be best for the post; and so proceeds to take out her rivals; by poisoning one and arranging for the other to be caught canoodling with a man. Meanwhile, she's making her own bargains to secure her wanted position; and showing the corruption of the church in the meantime.

Most people that watch these films will undoubtedly do so mainly to see some hot women dressed as nuns involved in lesbian scenes (or so I've heard...), but unfortunately (err...for those people), this movie does not make lesbian sex it's main focal point. It really does have to be said that the movie is far too talky and this is a problem since a lot of the dialogue is not even all that interesting. I do have to admit that despite having seen quite a few Italian films about nuns; I really don't have that much of an interest in Christianity and how the church is ran. The film stars Anne Heywood, who is good in the lead role (and mostly keeps her clothes on). She receives good feedback from Martine Brochard and Omella Muti, as well as Luc Merenda. I do have to admit that the story itself is actually not bad in the way it is constructed; I just found it rather dull. Despite the genre label; 'nunsploitation', I've found many of these movies to be rather high quality in terms of production values - this one being above average. Overall, I can't say that this film is a favourite of mine; but it is just about worth seeing.

not much here

Despite an overdose of social sincerity in the first half, this film basically emerges as your typical early 70s exploitation fare. It's about a couple of housewives whose husbands leave for a sporting trip so they decide to explore their relationship with each other, in a romantic way. One of the girls (I couldn't tell you which one at this point) gets really involved with it on a personal level and the other is just playing around and is really more interested in cheating with a neighborhood guy. There's a brief bit of action when the hubby finds out but other than that it's a lot of bad dialog and a little bit of hard exploitation. The serious girl goes to a drug party with a couple of lesbians and almost gets seduced by some kind of a big-shot art personality (another woman).

I found the girl on girl exploitation to be decent but quite brief and lacking in any kind of fetishism or visual humor. The girl on guy exploitation was even more dull. So if anyone is looking at this comment for a recommendation I'd tell you to avoid it unless you're particularly interested in the subject of Hollywood portrayals of homosexuality. If you already saw it and you're looking for more information I don't have any, and if you're looking for insight I don't think there's much to see into here.

Soft X drama.

Young man's Uncle dies in a car accident because he was having sex while driving. He leaves said nephew a fortune...provided he beds 7 selected women in 7 days. The catch? Young lad is a virgin.

The actor playing the lead ran the gamut of emotions. Confused and shy in the beginning, then starting to like it, then romantic. He even chewed out his fantasy girlfriend when he found out she was one of his uncle's concubines.

Best scenes include a romp in a closed furniture store at night, only to have to deal with a drunk watchman, and the outdoor scene with the peeping construction workers. The baseball jokes were groaners too.

This is soft x. Frontal nudity and no money shots.

The ladies looked good. They weren't surgically fixed so that was refreshing. Some of the set-ups were a bit hammy but otherwise this is a decent erotic outing.

Would have fared better as a TV variety show.

Johnny & Rijk (Kraaykamp & De Gooyer) had been performing comedy together since 1956 and had starred in several successful television series together, including a Dutch/German co-production before they ventured onto the big screen (with lackluster results) in "Geen Paniek".

Written by regular writer and beloved sketch comedy performer in his own right Kees van Kooten (based on ideas by Theo Joling and Gidi van Leimpd), "Geen Paniek" is an uneven hodgepodge that feels more like a series of sketches and improvisations than a coherent story. Johnny and Rijk go by their own names in the picture, even though Kraaykamp is depicted as an ex-jailbird. Starting off with a sight gag involving a prison tower, Johnny is released after serving a 5 year sentence and informed by Rijk that he cannot go back on TV because of his prison record. After borrowing money from Kraaykamp's auntie Toetje (Hetty Blok) they set themselves up as handymen, simply because Johnny has the uncanny ability to fix anything by way of a faux karate chop.

Aunt Toetje claims to run a massage parlor, which of course means it's a decadent Amsterdam brothel. Frans Kokshoorn appears as the villain of the piece, Koster, who wants to buy out dear old auntie and use the property to build a parking garage for the new Amsterdam Metro system. Two local crooks, Henkie (Hans Boskamp) and Rudolf (Ton Vos) catch wind of this and put the moves on Toetje to get their hands on the brothel instead. Meanwhile Johnny & Rijk's business is booming in a big way and since they are using Toetjes phone number to attract business, they have reason to stop her from selling the place as well. As if that wasn't enough, 'special guest star' Eddie Constantine also gets into the act as American businessman/gambler Silkstocking who claims to have only four months left to live.

Unfortunately none of these vaguely interconnected sub plots offer much in the way of laughs. Ko Koedijk's direction is sloppy and he seems to have allowed all the actors to add their own wacky ad-libs whenever they wanted to. Also notable is the complete lack of any nudity (a rare instance in a Dutch film) despite the abundance of pretty actresses portraying prostitutes. This once more leads one to the conclusion that Geen Paniek could just as well have been made for television at a lower budget. Perhaps the strangest twist comes at the end, when Johnny & Rijk start singing a song (aptly titled 'Geen Paniek') and the lyrics pop up on screen, enticing the audience to sing along (who says the Japanese invented Karaoke, eh?).

Although initially two more films starring the duo of J & R were planned, they never came to pass. Rijk declined to appear in "Heb Medelij, Jet!" (1975), preferring to act in slightly more serious films instead. Several of these co-starred Jon Bluming, who is also credited at the start of Geen Paniek, but appears to have been cut out completely. Johnny & Rijk did however both appear in Zwaarmoedige Verhalen Voor Bij De Centrale Verwarming" that same year but by that time it was clear their time as comedy partners were over. The pair of them teamed up again several times in later years, for instance in the sitcoms 'De Brekers' and 'Beppie'.

Half Baked tale of Deppression era

Quick Quiz folks: How old was Fred MacMurray when he made this film? He was born in 1908-this film was made in 1973. He was around 65 years old-too old to be a father of 2 young boys! He's old enough to be their grandfather. So, would someone please tell me why Disney Cast MacMurray as a father? He has since worn out his role as a father since "My three sons."

I like Fred MacMurray, I consider him to be one of the best actors in Hollywood but he's all wrong here as a father. Cloris Leachman is OK as the mother, certainly better than she was in "Scavenger Hunt."

Perhaps the best performances comes from the two boys, I like the scene where they drive a car!(and they seem to be the only ones who are enjoying themselves.) Harry Morgan is fine as the angel.

So, overall this film was a half baked attempt at a feel good story of a family in the Depression. It was made at a time when Watergate broke lose and the Vietnam war-so perhaps they made this movie as an escape from that.

I enjoy this film, but Disney should have done better with the story and the casting.

nice Russian comedy about treasure hunt

It is not my favorite Ryasanov's movie, but nevertheless I recommend it for everybody who like comedies about treasure hunting. The plot is quite usual. Somewhere in very poor Italian hospital dies old Russian lady, who appears to be one of noble Russian aristocrats. She left Russia after revolution 1917, but she was not able to take with her all her treasures. So in the hospital, before she dies, she reveals to everybody, who is near her (her granddaughter, gangster, doctor, paramedics, patients) her secret. And treasure hunt begins! The movie is quite funny, but not the best example of Russian comedies. The good news is that unlike many Russian comedies which are fun only for native speakers, this one can be comprehended by any audience.
